Share Your Pets #2: Kuro Angelo Kamaru

It’s been a while since my last Share Your Pets post, please blame it all on Mommy!!

She was in cloud 9 for the past few weeks and unable to spare time to help me translating this post. I am only turtle baby and have no ability to translate yet ;)

My current guest is Aunty Eva Ayuning Cahya and her lovely Red Ear Slider, Kuro :)

She wrote it in our native language, Bahasa Indonesia, and mommy is helping me with the translation.

I will post the translation in indent format right below the Bahasa Indonesia.

Take it away now Aunty Eva :)

Aku mau cerita tentang RES kesayanganku nih. Dia itu namanya Kuro. Nama panjangnya Kuro Angelo Kamaru.

I want to tell you about my lovely RES. Her name is Kuro Angelo Kamaru or Kuro in short. Kuro is inspired by Kura (turtle in Indonesian language) and Shiro (the name of a dog in Japanese animation called Crayon Shinchan), hence became Kuro. Angelo is from Michelangelo, hoping that she will have Mikey’s personality hehehe. Kamaru came from an instant celebrity in Indonesia, hoping that she will be a brave turtle :D Continue reading

Share Your Pets #1: Ahri, Kicky and Kog Kog; Donna’s Dearest Turtles

The time has come :)

My first hosting job…I am so thrilled, I hope I can do a great job.

As I have mentioned it last week, I was given responsibility to do my special post called Share Your Pets. I had received 3 mails, all of them have turtles…so happy to know that there are many people who love turtles like our dear mommy.

This first guest post is by one of our loyal readers, Donna. Donna sent us her bits of story in English (the other posts are in in Indonesian language which Mommy will translate later) and lots of photos of her 3 dear turtles.

Her turtles are a bit obese but she is forcing them to have diet now. Mommy said that Kame was a bit obese too but mommy managed to slim er down a bit.

Without much ado…take it away Donna :)

Firstly , Thanks for the guest post!

Share Your Pets Project

Horayyyyy…I am happy to announce you that I have my own special post now :)

As you have already known that Kame used to run Turtle Fact and Kroten has her Herptile Spotlight. Mommy have come to a conclusion that both Turtle Fact and Herptile Spotlight will be handled by Kroten from now on….she said I am too young to handle such difficult posts. However, Mommy wants to give me my own special post…but not too difficult and she comes up with this :)

In honor of my late old sister that I have never met, Kame, we decided to do a series of guest posts where people can share about their pets here. The main idea is to let non-blogger has a bit of sharing moment in our blog. We know a lot of  people love their pets but they don’t have time to properly make a blog…but We know that every parents want to show their babies….and we provide that :)

We already received 3 guest posts…all will be published at their own time starting next Saturday. I will be the host of this event…yaiii, wish me luck :)

I hope you enjoy reading about our friends as much as we do…and we hope there will always be someone who wants to share about their pets here :)

Here is the image Mommy made for this event: (Kame is used as the background)

Papoe’s Set Up

It’s the end of March, which means that Papoe has been living with me and Kroten   for almost 3 weeks now. When Papoe first came, I only put her in small container because his new house hadn’t been prepared yet….and I am not sure how great he is in swimming. After seeing him swimming eagerly in Kroten’s tank (of course without Kroten swimming along, she might think that Papoe is her new food…Papoe is still really small), I decided to set him a new ‘swimming room’ for himself.

Kame’s tank is now used by Kroten because that tank has clearer plastic and I love seeing my turtles swimming here and there in the tank. I give Kroten’s old tank o Papoe.

See the picture on the right>>>
I only filled 1/5 part of the tank because, once again, Papoe is still very small. I rearranged Kroten’s old basking area into something shorter (see the original basking area>> here, Kroten’s old basking area was on the right) so that Papoe can easily climbs it.

I also adjusted Kroten’s old water filter to be the right height for Papoe’s water level. I only used half size of it and cover the bottom with hand-made lid.

Papoe turns out to be a great swimmer, just like most water turtle….but, Papoe’s small body is often carried away by the current created by the filter. It is so fun to see him swim so hard to reach the area with less current.

A week ago, Papoe was still very shy and only took a rest by hanging on the filter. (see the photo below) Continue reading

The Ninjas Are Back!

Compared to our fellow pet friends, we turtles do not have as many celebrities as cats and dogs. Cats have Tom, Garfield, Sylvester and many more. Dogs have Lassie, Scooby Doo, Hachiko, Buddy, and many more. How about turtle? There are only 2 celebrities from the turtle world, one is not so famous and we have forgotten his name and The Teenage Mutant Ninja, the latter is very famous.

Mommy used to watch Ninja Turtles when she was little. Michael Angelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael are the only real celebrities that we have. They are super cool. I like Michael Angelo the most.

Here’s a nice image we found through google. It belongs to Nebezial.deviantart.com

This is not our art, it belongs to Nebezial.deviantart.com

I read in Uncle Castor’s blog (called Anomalous Material) that The Ninjas are coming back to the big screen…yaaaaiiiii. Continue reading

Turtle Fact #8: Changing Shell Color

In respond to Aunt Deb’s question:

You did? Both of you changed color?….Hmmm. We will have to see what the winter time brings to me for time. Is your mommy going to post new pictures of you with your new colors?

Aunt Deb xx

I asked Kame to let me write this Turtle Fact, you might not notice that this is Kame’s department…my department is Herptile Spotlight…but, for once I want to do this because Aunt Deb asked the question to me not to Kame  ;)

We, red eared slider, look so green when we were baby. Everyone thinks that baby RES is the cutest, so green and so tiny. Almost all baby RES look as green as this picture below: (it is the picture of our long cousin named Ipin, she/he lived in Padang with Mommy’s cousin)

However, that green color will not stay forever. As we grow older, our color changes to a darker color. It can be dark green, dark brown or yellow in my case. But the color will change again once we shed our scute. Continue reading

Turtle Fact #7 : Male or Female?

On August, I have shared about an act that can be interpreted differently…depending on the turtle’s sex. The post is called Fluttering.

This month, I realize I haven’t shared  about how to differentiate male turtle to female turtle. It is very simple to differentiate us…but, you have to wait till we are about 4 inches in length. We often  look the same when we are smaller than that size.

We should warn you that if you are a turtle, you have to be above 3years to see this as there is an image that no little turtle is allowed to see ;)

To differentiate us, all you need to do is look at our nails and tail. See this image (we borrowed it from redearslider.com)
