It’s been a while since my last post on Kame and Kroten’s differences series. Since this is going to be a loooong series, I decided to make a new category and page for this differences post. The Category is called Kame vs Kroten, the page goes under the same title. I make the page as a way to make easy for new readers to know more about them.

My last post is about Kame and Kroten’s differences in eating behavior. This time, I want to share how difference they are in the way they look at me. This won’t be a long post, it has more photos than words 😉

I can’t tell you for sure why they are so different, most likely it is because of the way they were raised before they lived with me. Kame was taken out of the petshop since little tiny baby, she lived with my in-law’s friend and then moved with 2 months later. Kroten lived in pet shop longer than Kame, she had light green color at that time, kinda like sick turtle (tho it turned out she is a morph). My theory is, probably, the longer a certain pet lives in pet shop, the more difficult it trusts people.

Since baby, Kame has a pair of eyes that show eagerness and love. She always looks at me straight in the eyes with both of her eyes looking at me.

Unlike Kame, Kroten has a pair of prejudice eyes, she looks at people with one eye and I can see how that eye seems to calculate whether she can trust me or not.

This way of looking at me grows with them. Kame still shows eagerness and love and Kroten still has suspicious eyes.

Kame always looking at me with eyes as if saying ‘please pick me up…please pick me up!!

While Kroten often looks at me as if saying ‘what do you want?

Even when they both look at me with one eye (or side way), Kame shows tenderness while Kroten shows doubt.

This photo (along with other 5 photos) has been published before in a post called Unusual Plant

Look at their eyes when they are put together like this:

Fortunately, Kroten has been getting better and better each year, that suspicious eyes of hers have become less and less, nowadays she shows more tenderness and love.

I hope the photos do justice to what I have been trying to say here, because we all know that sometimes photo can’t capture the real thing 100%.

I totally got it!!! So true how Kroten looks a little suspicious and distrustful! Glad they both have such a good mommy who loves them and takes such good care of them!!

I am glad you can see the differences, Beth 🙂
It’s transparantly visible if you see real them. I often wonder why Kroten has such distrustful eyes. I am glad I can love them equally and change those eyes day by day.

I must say I agree with your observations. But more importantly, the pictures are absolutely delightful. That bit about the pictures not doing complete justice is an uncalled for anxiety here. 😀

    • Novroz says:

      Thank you Deboshree.
Well, my anxiety was based because I see the real eyes everyday, and not sure they are delivered well in the photos. I have the benefit of comparison 🙂

I can see and agree with your observation of the way they look at you. Kame is so sweet and eager to love, whereas Kroten still not sure.

    For Kroten:
Kroten, you should learn to just trust your mommy. Take it from Kame who already does.Your mommy loves you.

    Aunt Deb xx

    • Kroten says:

      Don’t worry Aunt Deb 🙂
I am learning from kame everyday now. i copied her how to climb to mommy’s hand and also copied her how to follow her around.

  4. I think you’ve captured this perfectly. And it really shows how important those first weeks/months are in an animal’s life. I’m so glad that Kroten is coming around and trusting you more. It can’t be fun living in a situation where you are suspicious all the time. This was a really a well written post, and your photos illustrated the words perfectly! Thanks for letting your mom write this one, cute little girls!

    • Novroz says:

      Thank you Katie 🙂

You’re right,it wasn’t fun to live full of suspicion all the time. The first year Kroten lived with me was full of her running away from me or her hiding her head and arm whenever I want to hold her. That was the time where I couldn’t love Kroten as much as I love Kame.I finally learned to love her for who she is and that earned me a little trust from her. Glad she is becoming more trustful by the year

      • I know how much work it takes to turn a distrustful animal around, so I know you’ve done a lot of work with Kroten, Novroz. Kroten is so lucky she came to you. Not everyone (hardly anyone) would have taken the time to help her the way you’ve done. Wonderful job! And lucky you, Kroten! And thanks to Kame for showing you what a turtle can be! 🙂

      • Novroz says:

Thank you Katie…but I think I am the lucky one here. Through Kroten, I learned how to love before being loved

That’s quite interesting, and in the first photos, Kroten does seem to be a bit suspicious. But like you say, in the last, most recent photo, it does look like Kroten is more trusting.

    • Novroz says:

When she was that small, Kroten would run away from me whenever I tried to touch her. She would put her head or arms inside her shell. It was a contrast to what she did when she first saw me in the pet-shop, at that time she looked right at me and walked toward me. When she arrived at home, she ran away from me.

I am so happy she can slowly beginning to trust me. I can see it in her eyes.

Interesting in the differences in them. These are beautiful photos of your 2 girls. I never ceased to be amazed at the fascinating markings on their skin.

It is amazing the way they can look at you and you almost know what they are thinking. They are both so different…. but it takes someone special like you to see it so clearly. I know Kroten must feel the love you have for her…. it’s just hard for her to lose the old habits from when she wasn’t so lucky. Someday she will be as carefree as Kame. 🙂

    • Novroz says:

Eyes is the window of someone’s soul…that’s what people say. I think when you live with someone, be it another human being or animal, long enough you can start seeing things through his/her eyes.
The glint in Kame and Kroten eyes is so different. You can easily tell different if you know them long enough. I am glad Kroten has more trustful eyes now, I bet she will be as carefree as Kame but in her own way 🙂
