First of all…I am sorry I haven’t been able to update my turtle’s blog. I had a one week holiday and been away from the computer for a while. When I had time to turn on my PC, I was busy with my own blog (sharing my trip to Mount Papandayan).
The holiday is almost done and I have important news to share 🙂
There’s a new family member in my house (not in my school’s dormitory).
My family house has a terrible rat/mouse attack lately. We had done everything we could to get rid of them but they seemed to multiply at incredible speed. One day, a wild cat came to our house and caught one of the baby mouse. She was really good in catching those mouses. Because of her ability, we decided to adopt the cat. Not a full adoption, she can come and go as she pleases. She is still as wild as she wants to be.
Before we adopted her, we didn’t give her any food because she kept catching the mouse. But them she started stealing our food, like chicken and fish. We finally realized that even though she could catch the mouse but she was still hungry, we couldn’t scold her for stealing our food…so we adopted her.
I gave her a name. She is called Uci, a short version of kucing (cat is Indonesian language).
I didn’t bring my camera home, I could only take her picture using my lousy mobile phone camera:
Now, Uci is free to come and go but we always prepare breakfast for her and lunch when she is around during that time. She often sleeps inside the house because the mice are most active at night but sometimes she sleeps outside.
I honestly think that she is pretty for a female cat 🙂 She likes to be touched and petted…I was quite surprised to learn that a wild cat likes being petted.
I don’t know how long she will be in our house but we welcome her every time she comes 🙂
Our only concern is what will happen when she gets pregnant…No one in the family can accept baby cats. We will think about it once she gets herself pregnant.
Helllooooooooooooooooo … Remember ME 🙂
Lovely pics and Cute isn’t she 🙂
Hello Uncle Bik 🙂
Welcome back ((hug))
I think she is cute…but I am glad we live so far away. I don’t want to end up as her snack 😉
She is such a cute little kitty!
I think so too 🙂
She is a lovely cat. Maybe when she was a kitten, someone took good care of her, so she doesn’t mind being pet now. Perhaps there is a local veterinarian who can spay your cat at a low cost so she doesn’t have kittens. Here in the U.S., sometimes we can find a local humane society to underwrite the cost of the spaying. We have a problem in the United States with unwanted cats and dogs. I love your turtle posts. I have two turtles and one cat. She catches the occasional mouse too!
Maybe…because she often asks to be cuddled.
I am not sure about spaying because she is in my brother’s house and she is after all a wild cat. The decision lies on his hand not mine.
Thank you Carol 🙂
Oh what wonderful eyes you have!
She has lovely eyes 🙂
Is there no way to spay her, so that she can’t get pregnant?
Maybe…I will have to check that with my brother.
It’s a common, safe surgery here in the US. I don’t know how available veterinary care is in Indonesia. Is there a Human Society branch there? Sometimes they sponsor clinics, I think. Good luck – she looks like a sweet kitty!
No..there’s no such thing here 😦 Even vet is still considered as special case. when I brought Kame to a vet, everyone was questioning me for spending money on her.
Someone told me maybe we can give her a birth control for cat
I have never heard of birth control for cats, other than surgically spaying or neutering them. What a shame that veterinarians are so few there. I spend quite a bit of money getting medical care for my animals, as needed. They’re part if the family, and that is part of taking care of them. I’m glad you sought care for Kame. That is not something to be criticized for!
I haven’t either till someone told me. Will look it up later.
Me too! When it comes to my turtles, money is not a consideration. When Kame was infected by bacteria, she had to go to the vet several times.
She is beautiful. I am with Carol, she needs to be spayed and being outside all of the time isn’t safe for her at all. If you can adopt her, spay her and bring her in, that would be best for the cat.
I can’t adopted her fully because I don’t live there anymore. I come home only on weekend, the decision is on my brother. For now, she is free to come and go into our house but she is not fully ours yet.
We will think about the spaying or maybe a simple birth control (if there is any)
nice to meet the new member of your family 🙂
Thank you Misaki. Not a full member yet 😉
So pretty…. She’s staying at your old place? With your family I mean.
There were a few feral cats that roamed the neighborhood where I grew up, and although they really were wild animals, they were remarkably used to being around humans. I remember that they were very wary around people… but not afraid of them in any way.
If I tried, it was easy to befriend them, and then you could touch them and pet them when they came to trust you, but they would never trust you enough to actually let you pick them up or cuddle them. Too wary of that and never completely sure you wouldn’t want to hurt them. I remember having one little tiger cat that actually followed me home and would spend her time under our front porch… but I could never coax her to come in our house.
Yes 🙂
Yup I only see her once a week.
I once lived in an area with so many wild cats and non of them liked being touched, they would hiss every time we extended our arm. fortunately this one is different. We don’t her at all, she comes in voluntarily
I remember when we first moved into our house a white and gray striped cat who used to live here ( i am guessing ) would come two the front doorstep and wait for us to come out and play with him.
One day he even came into the backyard. At first he sat on the fence, then he came over and let me play and cuddle with him. My dog was NOT happy.
Oh and I hope this isn’t asking too much, but could you please check out my blog at myturtlelily.blogspot.com
Thank you for posting this!
– With Love ,
Alexis 😀 ❤
TO our doorstep not two
Hi Alexis 🙂
I think he was curious with you. We don’t have dog so Uci is happy at home without any jealousy from other pets.
I will check your turtle blog 🙂
Kalo KB kucing biasanya murah lho. Di semarang cuma 30rb, tahannya 3 bulan. Kalo di mandulin lumayan sih harganya 😛
oh ya, salam kenal ya.
Oh ada ya KB kucing.
Ntar deh dibicarain sama org rumah
Salam kenal juga 🙂
She looks like a pretty cat. We often call a cat who is good at catching mice a “mouser”.
Oh…I didn’t know that. Well, she is an incredible mouser and geckoer 😉 (she also catches small house gecko)
I hope not like the gecko your father had for a pet!
Oh no! It’s a common small gecko, I don’t think anyone had them as pet. some people feed it to their turtle or vicious fishes like arwana or piranha.
It looks like this http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mx6oyUgBQx4/TPDhIEhlRAI/AAAAAAAAAS0/A27c8xCiBg4/s1600/cicak.jpg
She’s very cute! Nice of you guys to give her a warm, dry place to sleep and some food in exchange for her services! Our cats do a good job of keeping our place mouse-free. They’re very handy to have around.
Have you considered getting her spayed so she doesn’t wind up with kittens?
I have to talk about it with my brother. I only live there on weekend, so that kind of decision will depend on my brother
Hey we got a new mouser as well. Can she be spayed where you live? I had a cat once that showed up one day like yours and she lived with us for over 10 years. I never could keep her indoors all the time and she came and went as she pleased. She was the best mouse catcher ever!
I don’t know yet. I have to ask around…especially how much it’ll cost.
Maybe this kind of cat is always the best mouser, the free spirit cat 😉
Hey Uci
It’s so nice to meet you pretty, pretty kitty!
I hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thank you Snoopy 🙂
She is adorable Miss. Novia, hey and don’t worry about not being able to visit everyone, we are all in the same boat when it comes down to trying to keep up with everyone, I am always behind in viewing and commenting but we have to do other things too, and I am sure, like myself everyone will agree that it’s not easy to stay on top of things 🙂
I love your new cat 🙂
Andro xxxx
Thank you Andro 🙂
Hear hear! Maybe there should be more than 24 hours a day 😉
Yes I agree that would help a great deal 🙂 lol
Andro xxxx
So you’ve got yourself a good hunter. That’s good.
We have mouse problems once in a while. All we do is open the cupboard doors and let the cats crawl around. Even if the cats don’t catch anything, the mice go away fast.
It doesn’t work like that at our house 😦 the mice are till there even with the cat.
My house has mice problem too! At least, they never bite my turtles.
Hi Uci!
Uci will never bite my turtles…for sure 😉 hahaha because Uci and my babies don’t live in the same place.
[…] Back in late April I posted about Uci ion a post called New Cat in the House. […]
