As I have stated in my previous post (The Playground – Enjoying The Sun part 6) that we have new friends from the pond.

Here’s another look of the pond:

Notice anything?? 😉

Yup!!! There are two adult turtles in the pond.

Last year’s pre-k students decided to donate 2 turtles to school’s pond.Unfortunately, no one really takes care of those turtles. The pond has no basking area, so the turtles will keep on swimming endlessly. Mommy has told one of the men there but apparently everyone is busy with their own stuff. She can’t do much for the turtles. She can’t adopt them either.

When we were set free on the playground, one of the OB (Office Boys) saw it and decided to take out the turtles and let them walked around like us. At that time, we could see them clearly.

Unfortunately, one of those turtles has had a hard life because she has deformed shell 😦

Judging from the shell, mommy predicts that she had been living in a very small container. She is very short and her middle shell protrude unusually.

The other one looks healthy and HUGE!!!

You might not think that she is huge…wait till you see her with me 😉

You see…there are two reasons why Mommy will never let us play in the pond even though it looks really fun to swim there. First, the pond is hardly ever been cleaned, probably once a year and not a thorough cleaning. We have been living in a tanks which are being cleaned every month, a change of water like that might do something to our immune. Second, these new additions in the pond…she doesn’t know how aggressive they are. They are quite shy when people are near the pond but she doesn’t know what’ll happen if there’s smaller turtle there. But her main concern is the cleanliness of the pond.

Here’s another pictures of the two girls:

Mommy thinks that they look a bit grumpy.

Last time Mommy saw them (like last week) they already had moss on their shell…however, we really hope that they have better life in the pond than in their previous place…wherever that is.

About Kroten

My name is taken from Schildkroten (Turtles in German). I am a morph Red ear Slider. My Mommy adopted me on March 19, 2008. I am the oldest in Novroz's turtle family :)

  1. I feel sorry for this two guys in the pond… hope the office boy let them walk now more often :o)

maybe there can be a RAMP up to the island, so they can dry off and bask????

So sad that your “neighbors” do not have nice living conditions such as yours. Gentians

  4. those turtles in the pond are just adorable!

  5. Alexis says:

Hmm, maybe you could sneak a ramp for then so they can bask?

    • Alexis says:

And their shell color almost looks like how Kame’s color used to look like, except they are more grumpy and not sweet looking ❤ ❤

      • Kroten says:

It’s not easy to make a ramp and Mommy is too busy to do something like that, even to play with us she only has time in the morning.

Yes they are the same colour as Kame 🙂

Fascinating – these are wonderful shots.
Isn’t a turtle’s shell supposed to grow with them? I’m no turtle expert, but it seems that it should!
Hope to see you each week at image-in-ing. This week’s linkup is here:

Yes, a ramp or something like stepping stones would be an excellent idea. Those poor turtles can’t swim forever!

    • Novroz says:

They can float but it’s a poor choice.
If I have enough time thing and do something, I will try to find way to give them ramp…but not at anytime soon tho 😦

  8. Doesn’t look too hopeful for them does it?

  9. Xeristh says:

Well the first one is so sad 😦
I know you can’t adopt them, but mommy could at least clean the moss (on their shell) and let the out for walk. Or does mommy has no authority to do that?

    • Kroten says:

They are quite feisty. She, even though she loves us so much, avoid touching other untamed turtles because she doesn’t want to be bitten.

it’s not about the authority…it’s about not having time to let them go. The school is pretty spooky after everyone goes home.

She wants to create a ramp or something but not in near future due to her busyness

Oh, those poor turtles! They definitely don’t look as happy as you all do. I don’t blame Mommy for keeping you out of that pool, dirty water is a bad thing. Your Mommy is smart! 🙂

So sad about the turtles in the pond

    Such a difference love makes.
