I have great news for everyone 🙂
Well…actually we have 2 good news but Kroten will share the other news two days from now 😉
Now, I want to share good news regarding my shell. I have had my perfect shed \(^_^)/
If you don’t know what shedding is you can read all about it here> Turtle Fact #9: Scutes.
This is the latest picture of me during my shedding process:
Yolu can see that my scutes didn’t look so good, they were peeled off in some areas. After moving to our new house, I started shedding the off one by one. Mommy kept finding new scutes inside the tank and when she dried me off to have my morning sun, sometimes the scutes also caught in the “towel” she was using to dry me.
My scutes are very thin (unlike Kame and Kroten’s). You can see it in these pictures below:
Here are some of my scutes that mommy able to collect
How do I look with my new shell??
Well…I look gorgeous 😉
This is my spotless plastron…looking rather cream than pink.
And this is my carapace. Look at that pretty scutes all attach nicely 🙂
I will go through this shedding process again one day…but for now, let’s just enjoy my new fabulous look 😉
How interesting! I have never seen scutes up close before. Your new shell looks amazing!
Thank you Pip 🙂
Congrats!! Really proud of you Papoe! 🙂
Thank you Roro 🙂
wow! a new dress :o) and you look great!!!! do you know if tortoises do that too?
According to Wikipedia, tortoise doesn’t shed:
“Terrestrial tortoises do not shed their scutes. New scutes grow by the addition of keratin layers to the base of each scute”
thanks :o) seems hell-mut has to wear always the same dress :o)
Hahaha…but I am sure hell-mut will always looks great in his “dress” 😉
You’re looking pretty good, Papoe!

Hi Dennis 🙂
Thank you…it comes natural 😉
Thank you for teaching about scutes. My red eared sliders have been shedding theirs. They are 8 years old. Sometimes I would pull them off thinking it would feel good to my turtles but I won’t do that anymore.
Also when my male turtle was about a year old he got lost in my house and when I found him days later part of his shell was broken. It is still misshaped. Pretty badly. He is now about 6 inches long. I was wondering if this would hurt him as he got bigger. So far it doesn’t seem to. I would like to send a picture of this but don’t know how.
Hi Teresa 🙂
It’s okay to help pulling it off if it’s already about to fall off…but it’s still better to just let it fall by itself.
I don’t think it would hurt him that much, just like this story> https://kamekroten.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/peanut-the-turtle/
You can upload your picture in any site and leave the link in here 🙂
Man! That’s cool!
Me too. I’m shedding. I think.
